There are several significant business clusters in the Region.
In Laclede County there is a major industry cluster of recreational watercraft manufacturers. The cluster includes trailer and electrical harness manufacturers as well as other suppliers. Aluminum welding technology is strong.Laclede County also has a number of manufacturers in the electric motor and equipment sector.
Phelps County has a number of advanced manufacturing companies with substantial research and development programs. They include MoSci Corporation (Glass Technology) and Brewer Science (chemical products for the electronics industry). Briggs & Stratton, a Fortune 500 company, also has a major manufacturing facility here.
Phelps and Pulaski County have a number of government and corporate organizations involved in geospatial information system research, development, products and services.
Pulaski County has a number of companies and government agencies working in support of the Defense mission at Fort Leonard Wood. Companies include analytical service providers in support of the science and technology missions at Fort Leonard Wood as well as logistics support providers.
